Storytime
I’m an actor, performer, model, educator, singer, dancer, just about anything creative you can think of, I will love having a go at.
I’m from Washington, DC, though I spent the majority of my formative childhood years in the Middle East – specifically, in Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E.
Living abroad there, I wasn’t afforded the opportunities to study acting, though I always knew I wanted to be an actor.
I remember getting bootleg videos, from my father’s dealer, and watching them sprawled on my parents’ bed. Those movies were my window into acting, film, theatre, the whole community. I remember watching a VHS of Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, shot on a shaky handheld in the movie theater, and that was my introduction to Shakespeare. My mom saw how moved I was, and gave me a book of his sonnets, which she’d had since she was a teenager, in the 70’s. Thus began a lifelong love affair.
As soon as we moved back to the DC area, I threw myself into every reasonable opportunity I could think of. I did community theatre, acting classes, dance, and private voice lessons. I was involved with every school show, and in high school, I was on the dance team. On weekends and over summers, I trained with the Shakespeare Theatre Company, as well as the Studio Theatre Company. The majority of my free time, though, was with the Shakespeare Theatre Company, where I studied Commedia Dell’ Arte, and was granted special entry into Floyd King’s adult acting Shakespeare intensives. I ended up interning with STC’s education department two years in a row, during college, which is how I earned a passion for teaching.
I got my theatre degree from Pace University, with a minor in Dance, and studied abroad at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, through NYU’s Tisch School.
Post graduating, I shifted my focus toward film, while maintaining my study and practice with classical theatre. I was featured in John Magary’s “The Mend,” starring Josh Lucas and Austin Pendleton. I then appeared in Jezebel Monterro’s award winning comedy, “Cassanova was a Woman,” as well as Peter Iengo’s “C Street”. My greatest film role to date, however, was that of Megan in Anthony Lindsay’s much acclaimed film, “Where Hearts Lie,” which can be watched on the ASPIRE Network.
Most recently, I made my off Broadway debut at Theater Row, in the world premiere of AGNUS: an original play by HBO’s Def Poetry Jam performer, Ise Lyfe. In AGNUS, I had the opportunity to explore three differing roles, though I had the most fun voicing, from backstage, an Alexa/Siri kind of artificial intelligence tool, named Sequoyah. It was for the portrayal of “her” that I received critical acclaim, because of my levity and my excellence in voiceover work.
Additionally, I recently starred as Laertes in a production of Hamlet by Matthew Gasda, staged at Tornpage (Rip Torn and Geraldine Page’s original playing space) as well as Access Theater.
